Monument to President Garfield |

President James A. Garfield died on September
19, 1881, of a gunshot wound suffered earlier that summer at the
hand of an assassin, Charles Guiteau. So loved was the President that railroad workers held a Memorial Service by the track near Toltec Tunnel on September 26th, the date Garfield's funeral was held in Ohio.
