Monument to President Garfield

President James A. Garfield died on September 19, 1881, of a gunshot wound suffered earlier that summer at the hand of an assassin, Charles Guiteau.

So loved was the President that railroad workers held a Memorial Service by the track near Toltec Tunnel on September 26th, the date Garfield's funeral was held in Ohio.  The monument shown above was later erected to honor the late President.
